Dresdner Musikfestspiele: Musical drama — «Schachnovelle»
Dresden, Schauspielhaus — Main Hall
About the Event
“When Nils Strunk throws himself into his plays, he doesn't just do so wholeheartedly, he also dives down to the bottom to bring what has been buried to the surface,” writes buehne‐magazin about the multi‐talented actor, musician, and director, who has been a member of the Burgtheater ensemble since the 2021/22 season. And so the magnificent mime is also in top form for two hours in this stage adaptation of Stefan Zweig's “The Royal Game,” conceived together with Lukas Schrenk: he recites, dances, plays the piano, and pushes the scenery back and forth. The brilliant solo performance and rapid role changes are literally tailor‐made for him and showcase Zweig's novella, written in exile in Brazil in 1941/42, about power, powerlessness, fame, and the weaknesses and strengths of the human spirit in all its gripping relevance.
