Dresdner Musikfestspiele: Magic on black and white keys — Piano recital by Seong‐Jin Cho
Dresden, Kulturpalast
About the Event
“There is something magical about the sound of a piano. No artificial intelligence will ever be able to replace it,” said Seong‐Jin Cho in an interview with the Berlin Philharmonic, where he was Artist in Residence for the 2024/25 season. Indeed, the piano recital by the Korean pianist, who won the International Chopin Competition in 2015 and began his great career in 2017 as a “stand‐in” for Lang Lang, promises to be a highlight. In addition to Robert Schumann's five‐movement “Faschingsschwank” (Carnival Caprice), which fits the festival motto, Schoenberg's first major twelve‐tone work, and Bach's Partita BWV 825, considered one of the special gems of his oeuvre, Cho will feature another piano magician in the second half of the concert: Frédéric Chopin. Chopin devoted his life to the waltz genre and created a wide range of short compositions, from virtuoso gems such as the Grandes Valses Brillantes to popular strokes of genius such as the so‐called Minute Waltz. Parade pieces for the world‐renowned exceptional musician!
