Dresdner Musikfestspiele: Closing Concert — “New Worlds”: Murray, Vogler, Wang, Perez
Dresden, Kulturpalast
About the Event
“In the transatlantic fusion of music and literature, speech and song, Murray and Vogler achieve something remarkable: a refreshing reinterpretation of the canon, free from reverence,” wrote the FAZ enthusiastically in 2017 about the “New Worlds” program. Actor Bill Murray, cellist Jan Vogler, violinist Mira Wang, and pianist Vanessa Perez formed a quartet especially for this purpose and caused a sensation on stages around the world, from Carnegie Hall to the Sydney Opera House. A film about this unique show combining literature and music premiered at the legendary Cannes Film Festival in 2021. Now the Hollywood legend and the musical trio are returning to Dresden, where the project's success story began. Classics of American literature meet their musical counterparts penned by Piazzolla, Bernstein, and Gershwin, opening up “new worlds” to the audience. And so the festival season comes to a close with an unforgettable highlight that once again celebrates the “LIGHTNESS OF BEING” in a fitting manner.
New Worlds. With texts by Billy Collins, Ernest Hemingway, Walt Whitman, and others, as well as
works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin, Astor Piazzolla, and others.
