Dresdner Musikfestspiele: Choir in a regal setting — Serenade in the countryside
Dresden, Schloss Pillnitz — Schlosspark
About the Event
Tradition is tradition—especially when it is so beautiful—and so the Kruzianers' serenade in the countryside has become as much a part of Pentecost Sunday as the Christmas Oratorio is of Advent! In any case, it is now an integral part of the musical calendar. The Dresden Kreuzchor, the oldest cultural institution in the state capital of Dresden and one of the most famous boys' choirs in the world, will once again delight audiences this season under the direction of its Kreuzkantor Martin Lehmann in the royal setting of Pillnitz Palace and Park with classical songs, well‐known folk tunes, and contemporary arrangements. In addition to the tried and tested, the afternoon serenade under (hopefully) blue skies also has a few surprises in store – and even that is a wonderful tradition.

| Choir: | Dresdner Kreuzchor The history of the Dresdner Kreuzchor (Choir of the Church of the Holy Cross) spans well over seven hundred years. Founded as a Latin grammar school at the “capella sanctae crucis”, today known as the Kreuzkirche (Church of the Holy Cross), the choir has been instrumental in preserving to the present day the medieval tradition of choral liturgy sung by boys' choirs. Being the oldest artistic institution still to be funded by the city, the choir is an essential part of the city's identity. |
