About the Event

Celebrated as the British capital's “most adventurous and dynamic” (The Times) orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and its conductor Edward Gardner invite you to join them on a melodious journey through the musical culture of their homeland for their second concert. The concert opens with Judith Weir's “Forest,” a work by the grande dame of English composers, who in 2014 became the first woman to hold the prestigious title of Master of the Queen's Music. As on the previous day, the centerpiece of the evening is the work of Edward Elgar: profundity and wisdom are the outstanding characteristics of the moving Cello Concerto, Op. 61, which will be performed in all its beauty and melancholy by festival director and cellist Jan Vogler. The Second Symphony, with which the LPO brings its guest performance in Dresden to a brilliant conclusion, is full of colorful power.
