Dresdner Musikfestspiele: American Sound — Levickis, The Knights, Jacobsen
Dresden, Frauenkirche Dresden
About the Event
Martynas Levickis takes the audience on an exciting musical journey across the Atlantic and back again. The accordion star shares Lithuanian roots with Philip Glass and Aaron Copland, both sons of immigrants from Lithuania, and a passion for jazz with the American George Gershwin. He is joined in this program at the Frauenkirche by his congenial partners, the New York ensemble The Knights, led by brothers Colin and Eric Jacobsen, who gave a brilliant opening performance at this very venue in 2009 for Jan Vogler's first festival in Dresden and have been closely associated with the music festival ever since. The concert evening will focus on Gershwin's famous “Rhapsody in Blue” in a version arranged for accordion by The Knights. This rousing work, in which jazz and classical music literally merge, made music history and has lost none of its appeal to this day.
