About the Event
The last time the French ensemble La Tempête performed at Bozar, our concert hall was bathed in golden light, and Stravinsky shone alongside De Machaut. This time, Simon‐Pierre Bestion has his singers and musicians tackle Claudio Monteverdi’s monumental “Vespro della Beata Vergine.” A subtle staging transforms the Vespers into a unique concert experience. When Monteverdi composed the work in 1613, he had set his heart on the position of Maestro di Cappella in Venice. This application for the position reads like the pinnacle of church music of his time, written under the spell of the marble and mosaics of St. Mark’s Basilica.
