About the Event
Edvard Grieg was just 24 years old when he composed his beloved piano concerto. He drew inspiration from Norwegian folk music: the finale features echoes of the enchanting Hardanger fiddle, and he weaves a “Halling”—a lively Norwegian dance—into the music. British pianist Benjamin Grosvenor, described by Le Soir as a “sensational meteor,” relishes this demanding concerto. Under the baton of the enthusiastic Anja Bihlmaier, the London Philharmonic Orchestra pairs Grieg with a colorful piece by Andrea Tarrodi and Jean Sibelius’s First Symphony, a monumental composition that slowly rises from a mysterious clarinet solo.
