Jugalbandi
About the Event
In the realm of Indian classical music, the term jugalbandi refers to a duet performance by solo instrumentalists, aptly described as “entwined twins.” The project named Jugalbandi brings together two maestros, each an expert in their respective traditions—North and South Indian music. Ambi Subramaniam, a violin prodigy, continues his father’s legacy, contributing significantly to a prestigious educational initiative aimed at integrating music education within Indian schools. On a parallel note, Pt. Debashish Bhattacharya, equally influential, is a master guitarist and innovative luthier. He specializes in playing the Indian slide guitar, an adaptation of a mid‐20th‐century Haitian model, and has further enhanced his craft by inventing ‘new’ instruments. Together, these two pioneering artists are set to exceed all expectations.
