GoYa Quartet
Brussels, Palais des Beaux‐Arts — Salle M Zaal
About the Event
The sixteen strings of the four instruments of the GoYa Quartet found perfect harmony in the renowned Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. First violinist Sylvia Huang, a prize winner at the Queen Elisabeth Competition, has since left her position in Amsterdam and become concertmaster at La Monnaie. Fortunately, the musicians continue to celebrate their shared joy of music as a quartet. They open the evening with two colorful and elegant works by Imogen Holst (the daughter of Gustav) and Maurice Ravel. The refined sound world of these works, in which not a single superfluous note can be found, stands in sharp contrast to the dramatic emotions of Leoš Janáček’s String Quartet No. 2, known as “Intimate Letters.” This impressive quartet expresses Janáček’s unrequited feelings for his young muse, Kamila Stösslová.
