About the Event
Johann Sebastian Bach composed—or rather, “compiled”—his masterful Mass in B minor toward the end of his life. It is undoubtedly one of his most ambitious works and can certainly be regarded as his musical legacy: The work is a compendium of many different musical genres and styles, occasionally referencing earlier compositions, the oldest of which date from 1724 and 1733. From the dramatic opening through the moving Kyrie to the jubilant Gloria, Bach creates a particularly impressive Mass. Who better than Philippe Herreweghe and the unsurpassed Collegium Vocale Gent to draw every last drop of depth and intensity from this sublime masterpiece?
