About the Event
“All men become brothers”: Thanks to Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, these words by Schiller have become deeply ingrained in our collective memory. Starting with a simple, recognizable melody, Beethoven builds a masterful series of variations in the final movement that gives voice to Schiller’s hopeful “Ode to Joy.” Acclaimed conductor Iván Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra present the Ninth in all its richness and power, illustrating how Beethoven broke with all conventions. To mark the 70th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome and the Beethoven anniversary year, a mass choir of more than a hundred voices from all EU countries will come to Brussels.
