Brodsky Quartet
Brussels, Palais des Beaux‐Arts — Salle M Zaal
About the Event
Beethoven’s late quartets continue to captivate listeners with the imaginative power of their melodies and rhythms. Beginning with String Quartet No. 12, Beethoven moved beyond the typical four‐part structure and broke new ground. For example, the four musicians pass the melodic lines back and forth in such a harmonious way that one sometimes wonders which instrument is playing at any given moment. Contrapuntal sophistication comes to the fore, as can be heard in the monumental “Great Fugue,” which reveals Beethoven’s fascination with composers such as Palestrina and Bach. In the capable hands of the Brodsky Quartet, his String Quartet No. 15, featuring the deeply moving “Heiligen Dankgesang,” is sure to captivate you.
