Beatrice Rana
Brussels, Palais des Beaux‐Arts — Henry le Boeuf Hall
About the Event
J.S. Bach was often drawn to the Italian Baroque style and made no secret of it with titles such as the “Italian Concerto.” In this concerto without an orchestra—which is nonetheless rich in instrumental timbres—he nevertheless retains his own contrapuntal artistry. Only a versatile artist like Beatrice Rana dares to combine Bach’s Baroque clarity with Robert Schumann’s poetic character pieces. In Schumann’s works for solo piano, the “Carnaval,” the Italian pianist disguises her flawless technique as Pierrot, Harlequin, or even Paganini. Last but not least, she introduces Muzio Clementi, an Italian who emigrated to England and influenced the piano compositions of Mozart and Beethoven. With great expressiveness, this concert program demonstrates that Italian music is a language spoken all over the world.
