Angela Hewitt
Brussels, Palais des Beaux‐Arts — Henry le Boeuf Hall
About the Event
Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt last performed at Bozar in 2015. She is regarded as one of the most distinguished interpreters of Johann Sebastian Bach. In this recital, Hewitt performs his demanding Partita No. 4. “Hewitt’s composure, her clear phrasing, her spontaneity, her wonderful finger legato, and her palpable joy (…) are a masterclass in themselves,” wrote Gramophone. She combines this masterpiece of counterpoint with virtuoso Baroque sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti, who—like Bach—was born in 1685. The program concludes with works by Frédéric Chopin that point toward the Romantic era, in which Hewitt’s lyrical sensitivity and expressiveness come into their own.
