About the Event

Formed in Maastricht in 2021 and now continuing its training at the Accademia Stauffer, the Doré takes its name from the great illustrator of the Divine Comedy. Dark woods and radiant illuminations alike feed these four Italian musicians, called upon to give voice to Mozart’s “Spring” Quartet and to the second of Beethoven’s three “Razumovsky” quartets—works that transform a salon genre into a site of philosophical speculation, treating the quartet as an orchestra. At the centre stands Osvaldo Golijov’s Tenebrae—Golijov, also a film composer for Francis Ford Coppola—drawn here to the haunting melismas of Couperin’s Third Leçon de Ténèbres: “music,” the Argentine composer explains, “that sounds like a spaceship in orbit, never touching the ground.”
