Bologna Festial: Cuban‐European Youth Orchestra Balthasar & Thomas Hengelbrock
Bologna, Auditorium Manzoni — Main Hall
About the Event
Thomas Hengelbrock’s multifaceted creativity—spanning conducting, musicology and stage direction—has led not only to the founding of one of the most admired period‐instrument orchestras, but also to an outstanding academy for young talent. A merciless proving ground is Beethoven’s whirlwind Seventh Symphony, which Balthasar Nova and the Cuban‐European Youth Orchestra approach by way of symphonic Mozart and the operatic Mozart of Al desio di chi t’adora, an aria written for a Viennese revival of Le nozze di Figaro in 1789, here entrusted to the highly theatrical voice of Kate Lindsey—equally ideal for the contrasts of Berenice, che fai?, a chamber cantata in which Haydn weds delicacy and vehemence in the full spirit of Sturm und Drang.
