Verdi Messa da Requiem (Revised version) at Philharmonie Berlin
Berlin, Philharmonie Berlin — Grosser Saal
About the Event
Experience the concentrated emotional power of Giuseppe Verdi's Messa da Requiem – a musical monument that gets under your skin and lingers long after the final note. In this new version for soloists, choir, two grand pianos, and solo cello, the Ernst Senff Choir, rehearsed by Steffen Schubert and conducted by Melih Tepretmez, unfolds the monumental sound that makes this work so overwhelming.
Born out of Verdi's deep admiration for the writer Alessandro Manzoni, the Requiem is far more than a liturgical mass for the dead – it is a deeply personal, humanistic confession. With his unmistakable dramatic language, Verdi transfers the expressiveness of opera to the sacred space and deliberately breaks the boundaries of traditional church music. The work addresses existential questions of guilt, hope, fear, and redemption, touching listeners directly.
