Toccata! at Berliner Dom
Berlin, Berliner Dom — Tauf‐ und Traukirche
About the Event
Experience masterworks of organ music performed by outstanding musicians on the spectacular Sauer Organ of the Berliner Dom.
The Berliner Dom (Berlin Cathedral) is located on the historic 'Museum Island' and was rebuilt in 1905. It has a richly decorated interior and the magnificent Sauer organ, which was built at the same time as the cathedral. Today, the Sauer organ is the largest organ of the 'late Romantic' period.
The programme offers excellent performances in the incomparable atmosphere of one of Europe's most impressive basilica cathedrals.
In 1979, Klaus Eichhorn acquired a 17th‐century Neapolitan organ that was in a condition that made it unplayable. A year later, he had the valuable instrument restored by organ builder Jürgen Ahrend. After brief stints in various Berlin churches, the organ found a new home in 2006: on the organ loft in the Baptism and Wedding Chapel of Berlin Cathedral. At the concert on September 18, Klaus Eichhorn will once again bring this special organ to life.
