About the Event
The META4 String Quartet, founded in Helsinki in 2001, won the Shostakovich String Quartet Competition in Moscow as well as the Joseph Haydn Chamber Music Competition in Vienna. Between a classical Haydn quartet from 1781 and Ravel’s only contribution to the genre from 1903, the four Finns have included the third quartet by Grażyna Bacewicz (1909–1969). It was composed in Paris in 1947 and is considered an example of the Polish composer’s neoclassical phase.
