It’s that time of year again: drum rolls echo through Berlin Cathedral, trumpets blare their fanfares, and the grand oratorio choir of the Berliner Domkantorei proclaims the motto of the quintessential Christmas classic: “Rejoice, be glad, and praise these days!” Every year, audiences from all over the world gather in Berlin Cathedral to get into the spirit of the most wonderful time of the year with Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio.”
In this special performance, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio is retold in a version for children and their families. Actor Lorenz Christian Köhler humorously guides the audience through the abridged first three parts of the Christmas Oratorio. Beneath the great dome of Berlin Cathedral, the Berliner Domkantorei sings, accompanied by the Baroque orchestra Aris & Aulis, under the direction of Cathedral Cantor Adrian Büttemeier.
