Huun Huur Tu
Berlin, Urania — Humboldt Saal
About the Event
The masters of throat singing and overtone singing are back on tour and will be presenting their program at the Urania Berlin. Time and again, their music captivates every audience member with its ritualistic character and powerful rhythms.
Tuvan throat singing and overtone singing are among the most fascinating vocal techniques in the world, and HUUN‐HUUR‐TU have mastered the various styles to perfection. There is an unmistakable ritualistic character to this music, but HUUN‐HUUR‐TU counterbalance any meditative tendencies with a strong rhythmic focus.
This fascinating overtone singing, capable of producing up to three melodies simultaneously, remains deeply mysterious. Traditionally, Tuvan music was mostly performed by soloists, and musicians specialized in a particular genre or style. These genres and styles, in turn, have their origins in specific social occasions. HUUN‐HUUR‐TU’s eclectic group performances of old songs and melodies, accompanied by instruments, thus move between all elements of Tuvan musical life. Fascinating, exotic, yet at the same time contemporary and modern.
