Grand Berlin Christmas Concert: Anhalt Philharmonic Orchestra Dessau
Berlin, Konzerthaus Berlin — Großer Saal
About the Event
The Dessau orchestra is one of the oldest and most traditional ensembles in the state of Saxony‐Anhalt. For decades, it has performed the “Grand Berlin Christmas Concert,” which has become a beloved tradition for many Berlin concertgoers.
The concert features well‐known, festive orchestral works performed by a large ensemble, making Christmas Day a special experience.
This year, the Anhalt Philharmonic Dessau presents the overture to the opera “Ruslan and Lyudmila,” Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 35, and excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s ballet “Swan Lake,” Op. 20.
The soloist for the violin concerto is Yakov Pavlenko, born in Berlin in 2003. The young violinist has already received several prizes and awards and has performed with renowned orchestras. He has appeared at prestigious festivals such as the Ludwigsburg Festival, the Schleswig‐Holstein Music Festival, the Hitzacker Music Week, the Euregio Music Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival, and the “Open Air Festival Idéal at the Potager du Roi” in Paris. In April 2024, he successfully made his solo tour debut in Japan with concerts in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Hiroshima, among other cities.
