About the Event

“Our People” are back with us—just as glamorous as they were two years ago, but this time in the Great Hall. Indian‐American pianist Kunal Lahiry and Grammy Award winner Freddie Ballentine, together with the Berlin voguing community, create a polyphonic space for queerness, remembrance, resistance, and self‐assertion. What originated in the ballrooms of New York’s Black and Latinx communities meets classical lieder, spirituals, the “AIDS Quilt Songbook,” and Nina Simone. The performers reveal themselves, their bodies, and their personal stories. The audience, too, is once again invited to make themselves visible: loud, proud, tender—in their own unique way. If desired, there are on‐site makeup stations to add the finishing touches. Let’s queer up the concert hall!

In our series “Berlin—Music of the City at the Konzerthaus,” musicians and ensembles from Berlin come together to experimentally blend classical Western music from various centuries with styles that all call this city home—from voguing to strings and synthesizers to jazz. Berlin Tracks aims to inspire, connect communities, and invite you to follow the diverse musical paths that together make up the soundtrack of our city.
