About the Event

Jörg‐Peter Weigle has shaped the Berlin Philharmonic Choir artistically for over two decades – from the 2025/26 season, the young choir conductor Florian Benfer from Sweden – the Mecca of choral music – will take over and is looking forward to his new role with one of Germany's most prestigious oratorio choirs: 'Choral music moves us and we move it! When we sing, we encounter the tremendous cultural heritage and tradition of several hundred years of music history. And this history should be cherished – and passed on.'

The new choir history begins with a French program: psalm settings by the highly talented composer Lili Boulanger, who died at the age of 24, and her teacher Gabriel Fauré. The concert with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and renowned soloists centers on Fauré's gently comforting, hope‐inspiring “Requiem,” which—uniquely in the history of requiem literature—praises death as a joyful entry into paradise.

Program
