About the Event
Having won awards at the Geneva International Music Competition and the ARD Competition, the Armida Quartet—named after the title character of a Haydn opera—is, after 20 years together, one of Germany’s most renowned string quartets.
Between Beethoven’s very first quartet from 1799 and Schubert’s famous late string quartet “Rosamunde”—in whose second movement a melody from his incidental music of the same name is varied—the four string players have included “Entr’acte,” a contemporary piece by Caroline Shaw inspired by the Viennese Classical period.
