Palau de la Música Catalana
Situated in the northern part of Barcelona's Old Town, the Palau de la Musica Catalana is a dazzling building and an architectural jewel of the Catalan Art Nouveau style. Constructed between 1905 and 1908, its rich interior showcases the work of regional artisans in stained-glass windows, ceramics, sculptures, paintings, and blacksmithing. The venue's extensive use of glass creates interiors that are stunningly radiant. The Palau's dusty red facade is adorned with busts of great composers like Bach, Beethoven, and Wagner, along with colorful mosaics featuring floral patterns. At the heart of the Palau is the magnificent concert hall, illuminated entirely by natural sunlight thanks to the extraordinary skylight in the center of its richly ornate ceiling. This venue is popular for symphonic and chamber music performances. According to architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, who designed the Palau, the goal was to create a “garden for music”—a vision he successfully realized.
