Barcelona, Gran Teatre del Liceu — Sala Principal
About the Event
Immerse yourself in the enchanting realm of ballet with the remarkable Nijinsky by Neumeier, brought to life by the Hamburg Ballett at the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
Vátslav Nijinski (1889‐1950), the Russian dancer and choreographer of Polish descent, was among history's most talented dancers. As a soloist at the Mariinsky Theatre, a guest at the Bolshoi, and the principal dancer for Serge Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes, he gained fame for his unmatched skill and profound character portrayals. His extraordinary performances earned him adoration from fans, while his expressive and sensual choreography caused quite a stir in Paris theaters.
Sadly, Nijinski fell victim to schizophrenia, spending the remainder of his life in and out of treatment centers. His last performance took place at a Swiss hotel on January 19, 1919, when he was 29. Despite a career spanning just a decade, he became an enduring legend.
