About the Event
MEAM invites you to dive into the lively 'unplugged' concerts of the Sunday Sounds series, showcasing an eclectic blend of musical styles, including indie, flamenco fusion, tango, and pop. Set off on a unique sonic journey where, consistent with MEAM’s tradition, music harmoniously integrates with art and history.
Argentine music displays remarkable cultural diversity due to the country's vast territory and demographic diversity, encompassing genres such as tango and folk music.
Tango, which originated in the slums of Buenos Aires and Montevideo, is one of the most internationally renowned styles, with figures such as Carlos Gardel and Astor Piazzolla. Argentine folk music varies by region: in the northwest, carnavalito, huayno, and bailecito predominate in the north, chacareras and zambas in the Cuyo region, cueca and tonada in the southern region, milonga campera and malambo surero and on the coast, chamamé and chamarrita. Among the most prominent artists are Atahualpa Yupanqui and Mercedes Sosa.
Mercadante and Olivera select some of the most beautiful works of the tradition and recreate them with love and respect for their sources, through their own experiences and sounds.
