Alexander Chaushian & Dmitry Ishkhanov
Barcelona, Palau de la Música Catalana — Petit Palau
About the Event
Set within the ornate Modernista interiors of Barcelona’s Palau de la Música Catalana, an evening with Alexander Chaushian & Dmitry Ishkhanov promises an intimate meeting of cello and piano.
Two exceptional performers meet at the Petit Palau in a programme that journeys through some of the most fascinating landscapes of twentieth‐century music.
Dmitry Ishkhanov opens the concert with Debussy’s Estampes, three evocative piano pieces full of colour, atmosphere and imagination. He then joins cellist Alexander Chaushian to perform Prokofiev’s Sonata in C major, Op. 119, a work combining lyricism, irony and extraordinary rhythmic energy.
After the interval, Ishkhanov takes on Nikolai Medtner’s concentrated and powerful Sonata Tragica, before cello and piano reunite in Alfred Schnittke’s Sonata No. 1: visceral, unsettling music full of contrasts.
A recital offering the chance to discover two musical personalities in a program that moves from Impressionist delicacy to the intensity of twentieth‐century music.
