About the Event
It would be Beethoven’s most exuberant symphony—if it weren’t for the funeral march in the second movement! That movement, however, has become world‐famous you’re surely familiar with it from movies and television. Otherwise, it’s all celebration: Richard Wagner described Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony as the “apotheosis of dance.” And while we’re on the subject of dance: Contemporaries of the Finnish composer Sibelius called the finale of his Violin Concerto a “Polonaise for Polar Bears”: Nordic, robust, and Scandinavian like the entire work—yet so virtuosic that one of the most important violin competitions was named after Sibelius. This classical hit will be performed at the Festspielhaus by France’s star violinist Renaud Capuçon.

| Violin: | Renaud Capuçon A musician’s musician with a rare, virtuosic touch and a range that runs the gamut from impassioned to finely sensitive, Renaud Capuçon is one of today’s most sought after violinists. Born in Chambéry, France, Capuçon began his musical training at the age of 14 after enrolling at the prestigious Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris before moving to Germany to complete his studies under the direction of Thomas Brandis and Isaac Stern. Touring regularly as a recitalist, Capuçon is especially well known for his brilliant interpretations and recordings of Beethoven’s violin sonatas as well as collaborations with his brother, cellist Gautier Capuçon. |
