About the Event
“Spring is coming to the valley!” You can even sing along to this theme from Schumann’s symphony! The trumpet fanfare that opens this exuberant work is followed by music full of new beginnings. Schumann envisioned optimistic music that, along with spring, heralds a brighter future. His contemporary Berlioz, on the other hand, wanted to use his symphony to recount his life—and to impress a woman. Both works are brilliant: two highlights of the repertoire, performed here together in a single concert.
