Osterfestspiele Baden‐Baden: J. S. Bach: Matthäus‐Passion
Baden‐Baden, Festspielhaus Baden‐Baden
About the Event
In Amsterdam, every Easter week begins with a performance of a Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach. After Willem Mengelberg, Bernard Haitink and Mariss Jansons, the designated new conductor Klaus Mäkelä is now following this tradition. Evangelist Maximilian Schmitt and Christ singer Matthew Brook represent the German and British interpretation of great baroque oratorios. In Amsterdam, both performance traditions merge into a unique oratorio culture, which we can now also experience in Baden‐Baden.

Artists
Orchestra: | Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra One of the world's most celebrated orchestras, Amsterdam's Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra musters 120 players from around the world under the batons of great conductors, historic and contemporary. The ensemble's unique timbre is at least partially due to the extraordinary acoustic in its home — the legendary 1881 Main Hall of the Concertgebouw itself — which demands exceptional listening and collaborative music making from the orchestra's players. Particularly acclaimed for its interpretations of Bruckner and Mahler, the orchestra's repertoire and sound have been shaped by a series of extraordinary conductors, their number in recent years including Haitink, Chailly, Jansons, Harnoncourt, Gatti, and from 2027, wunderkind Klaus Mäkelä. The orchestra also has a cherished tradition of premiering new works, and collaboration with composer‐conductors, from Strauss and Mahler to Schoenberg, Boulez, Ravel, Adés. Stravinsky, Tan Dun… |
