His performances with Paco de Lucia in the 1980s are legendary: Al Di Meola, famous as a blazingly fast electric guitarist in Chick Corea's jazz rock formation “Return to Forever”, picks up the acoustic guitar and faces the master of flamenco live. Together with the British jazz rock guitarist John McLaughlin, they recorded “Saturday Night in San Francisco” live, the world's most successful acoustic guitar album to date. With his current Acoustic Trio, Al Di Meola picks up the thread without copying the “old days”: Percussion and discreetly used electronic effects provide a driving, modern sound.
