About the Event

Between vignettes and larger‐scale pieces, Bertrand Chamayou will make his keyboard sing without words, but not without eloquence. He will begin by offering us a bouquet of Mendelssohnian romances interspersed with other pieces of the genre by Fauré, Ives, and Wieck‐Schumann, as well as melodies and songs arranged by Liszt and, for the Beatles, Takemitsu. Before concluding the evening with Schubert's famous Fantasia, in which the composer himself revisits one of his Lieder, the Toulouse‐born pianist will explore Eine Kleine Mitternacht Musik (2001), a cycle of seven “ruminations” by George Crumb on Round Midnight (Thelonious Monk). He will also remind us, in echoes of Christmas carols from the East, of his affinities with the meticulous miniaturist Kurtág. The art of broadening horizons.
