About the Event

Nestled in the bustling heart of Germany's capital, begin an auditory adventure at one of the city's renowned locales. The Hall of Mirrors at Clärchens Ballhaus captivates with its soaring ceilings and gleaming walls, exuding a distinctive patina. Famous for its superb acoustics, it stands as a premier concert destination.

The outstanding musicians of their generation—George Banos (violin), Kristina Winiarski (cello), and Itamar Carmeli (piano)—form a young piano trio that has already captivated audiences with its extraordinary musical chemistry, expressive intensity, and sonic subtlety.

For this special concert, they are expanding their ensemble to include the pianist’s father: Zvi Carmeli, a true viola legend.

The program combines late Romantic masterpieces with rarely performed works by Jewish composers of the 19th and 20th centuries. Mikhail Gnessin’s expressive Piano Trio, Op. 63, opens the evening with a haunting musical language shaped by wartime experiences. In Joseph Joachim’s Hebrew Melodies and Ernest Bloch’s Suite hébraïque, the viola unfolds its warm, song‐like voice, full of melancholy, spirituality, and inner passion.

Felix Mendelssohn’s early Piano Quartet in F minor, Op. 2, presents us with youthful genius brimming with romantic drama and virtuosic brilliance, before Robert Schumann’s Piano Quartet in E‐flat major, Op. 47, concludes the evening—one of the most beautiful works of Romantic chamber music, rich in poetic intimacy, sonic warmth, and exuberant imagination.
