About the Event
For many years, concert pianist and piano pedagogue Willem Brons has given an international master class for very talented students from home and abroad, which has gained great prestige. The opening concert of the 29th International Masterclass 2025 is traditionally played by Willem Brons in De Waalse Kerk.
Willem Brons has been devoted to Bach all his life. Hence this choice. Partita 4 is one of Bach's most optimistic compositions, together with the 6th Partita the highlight of all of Bach's Suites. The Chromatic Fantasy presents the greatest possible contrast in character. The content is dramatic and the fantasy in particular is extremely tragic in content. The work by Lili Boulanger is poignant, composed during the horrors of the First World War. Franck's triptych is one of the most important masterpieces in piano literature. L' Isle joyeuse, extraordinarily optimistic composition, leads to a glorious euphoria at the end! These compositions are among Brons' favorites.
