Tobias Borsboom & Pamela Smits: On the Amsterdam Canals
About the Event
A nod to the annual Prinsengracht Concerts, but in De Waalse Kerk! Pianist Tobias Borsboom will play unknown compositions with a touch of Dutch Glory. Great catchy hits of yesteryear given a new twist.
Mozart composed for the solemn inauguration of Stadholder William V. these 7 variations for piano on the then famous song William of Nassau. The best‐known orchestral work by Peter van Anrooy, a fierce anti‐Nazi, is the Piet Hein Rhapsody. To the well‐known song De Zilvervloot is performed here in an arrangement for piano solo by Tobias for the first time.
Peter Vigh wrote his Perpetuum mobile for Tobias an “infinity and transformation of time and space. Cellist Pamela Smits makes a guest‐appearance in Jacob ter Veldhuis' May this bliss never end in a version for piano, cello and boombox. It is a tribute to jazz trumpeter Chet Baker, based on one of his last interviews before his tragic death in 1988, by falling out of a hotel window in Amsterdam. The work gives an impression of his life as an artist and drug addict.
Amsterdam as a musical melting pot in a crossing of musical waterways, played by a great pianist of Dutch soil!
