Scherpdenkers (clear thinkers): tales and tunes that provoke thought. Today features author Ruben Mersch. The musicians of Het Collectief perform pieces ranging from Ives to Rihm in a program focused on polarization. Polarization often bears a negative reputation we clash over everything, from significant issues to trivial matters. Discussions risk devolving into verbal battles, where knowledge is less about fostering understanding and more about attacking adversaries. Yet, we require polarization: opposing views can offer insight, especially when accompanied by a healthy dose of curiosity.
