About the Event
Scherpdenkers: stories and music that inspire reflection. This edition features writer and journalist Geert Mak, pianist Ramon van Engelenhoven, and soprano Taylor Burgess. The focus: America, a democracy preserved. In the dark 1930s, as fascism and National Socialism thrived in Europe, the United States opted to uphold democracy. The war years also saw the groundwork laid for the United Nations, marking the start of a lasting peace framework. Eighty years on, Geert Mak seeks out that inspiring America of the past. The musical journey includes pieces by Gershwin, Stravinsky, Copland, and Korngold.
The concert will be conducted in Dutch.
