About the Event

Feel free to call the portion of high baroque that PRJCT Amsterdam serves generous: grand and royal! The program includes music by Vivaldi in which the strings reign and in which Maarten Engeltjes' crystalline voice triumphs. Just as moving as the motet Filiae maestae Jerusalem and Vivaldi's incomparable Stabat Mater is Johann Adolf Hasse's Salve Regina on the program here: in 18th‐century Italy it was a hit of the castrato singer Farinelli.
A voice you want to keep listening to,' the Volkskrant praised Dutch countertenor Maarten Engeltjes on the occasion of his most recent CD release. Round and anointing, honest and glowing and with that golden edge that elevates ‘beautiful’ to ‘excellent’, Engeltjes' voice has in about twenty years led to the most renowned opera stages and concert podiums. With a heart for baroque and contemporary repertoire, Engeltjes ensures in each performance that his own wonderment in regard to well‐known and lesser‐known masterpieces is also intensely experienced by the audience.
With a debut CD with the Sony record label (Bach: Forgotten arias, 2019), the career of baroque orchestra PRJCT Amsterdam took off in 2019. Founded in 2017 by countertenor Maarten Engeltjes, the ensemble is not only a breeding ground for talented musicians but also a sanctuary for baroque performances with vision and temperament. Between sweet temptation and crystal‐clear counterpoint, PRJCT Amsterdam stands for baroque with salt and pepper that will delight aspiring melomaniacs and connoisseurs alike.
