Piano Recital – Gianluca Luisi plays Beethoven, Schumann and Chopin
Amsterdam, De Duif
About the Event
Step into the realm of timeless melodies and profound emotion at the enchanting De Duif, where a piano virtuoso leads you on an unforgettable musical odyssey.
On this special evening, amidst the quiet elegance of De Duif, we are welcomed to traverse a musical bridge from 18th‐century Italy to the romantic Europe of the 19th century, guided by the exceptionally sensitive artist, Gianluca Luisi.
Under his touch, the piano becomes a treasure chest brimming with memories, colors, and emotions. Luisi first guides us through the bright and glittering architectures of Italian Sonatas by Scarlatti and Clementi—music that breathes with Mediterranean light, rich in dance, grace, and intuition. It is a return to the origins, where purity and style captivate with clarity and formal intelligence.
In the second act, we take a leap into one of the most passionate expressions of the Italian spirit: opera. Franz Liszt, deeply inspired by this art form, infused the power and grandeur of Italian opera into the piano keyboard—and how! His arrangements of Verdi's masterpieces Il Trovatore, Rigoletto, and Don Carlos resonate with the full passion of Italian musical theater. These moments convey supplication, revenge, love, and farewell—in the language of the piano.
These pieces are not mere arrangements but jewels of virtuosity and depth, where opera's arias come alive in a novel but equally compelling form. We may not hear voices, but we feel them—every note embodies theater, love, struggle, and longing. The sounds bear the weight of emotions, from Leonora's prayer (Miserere) to Rigoletto's cynical laugh and the tragedy of Don Carlos.
Gianluca Luisi brings these arrangements to life with an intensity and refinement that evokes Verdi's spirit, without words—but with profound feeling.
