About the Event
In Nieuwe Blik Terug, musician, presenter, and documentary maker Orville Breeveld highlights composers and musicians who have been unfairly neglected. This installment of Nieuwe Blik Terug (New Perspective) highlights Armenian composers, with Soghomon Gevorgi Soghomonian—better known as Komitas (1869‐1935)—as its central figure. As a priest, composer, choir director, and pioneering ethnomusicologist, Komitas dedicated his life to collecting and studying Armenian folk melodies, aiming to transform them into art music.
