Long before smartphones captured our visual attention, the eyes of a loved one were the place to disappear into. “The eyes are the mirrors of the soul,” Leonardo da Vinci wrote — a thought that inspired poets like Guarini and Tasso to create poetry full of longing, sorrow and fiery passion. With Mirrors of the Soul, ensemble Le Nuove Musiche presents a wonderful new program of madrigals that touch the heart directly. With music by such greats as Claudio Monteverdi and Giaches de Wert — Monteverdi's great example and teacher at the court of Mantua — word and sound merge into pure emotion.
Led by Krijn Koetsveld — conductor, harpsichordist and passionate ambassador of Italian music — Le Nuove Musiche has been bringing this powerful music to life for years. With their acclaimed Monteverdi recordings, the ensemble garnered international praise.
