The Concertgebouw has launched a new series in the Small Hall this season, for anyone who wants to learn more about classical music. In Masterpieces Unboxed, the focus is on a well‐known work of classical chamber music. The Netherlands Chamber Orchestra will present an expanded version of this concert format in the Great Hall this summer. Together with presenter and classical music fan Floris Kortie, the orchestra's musicians will explore Ludwig van Beethoven's Sixth Symphony, also known as “Pastorale.
Quest for the creation of Beethoven's masterpiece
Beethoven's 'Pastorale' captures the imagination. If you listen carefully, you can hear storms rushing by, flowing rivers, animal sounds and peasant parties. Despite his rapidly increasing deafness, the genius Beethoven managed to create these compelling sound paintings. Using letters, notebooks and musical excerpts, the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra explores the genesis of this Sixth Symphony by Beethoven. A wonderful evening for all ages, from 8 to 88. The orchestra plays, Floris Kortie narrates.
