Dutch Jazz Heritage: Tribute to Gerry Mulligan
Amsterdam, Concertgebouw — Small Hall
About the Event
The Dutch Jazz Heritage series brings jazz fans a chance to relive iconic (Dutch) jazz moments, featuring notable jazz artists, courtesy of the Dutch Jazz Archive in collaboration with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. This performance focuses on the artistry of baritone saxophonist Gerry Mulligan. On 5 November 1960, Mulligan graced The Concertgebouw stage for the third time, but this occasion marked a departure from his prior small ensemble appearances, as he brought along his thirteen‐piece Concert Jazz Band. The concert was a sensational success, solidifying the band's reputation alongside legendary names like Count Basie and Duke Ellington. Tonight, the Jazz Orchestra is thrilled to have esteemed baritone saxophonist Jan Menu embrace Mulligan's legacy at The Concertgebouw.
