About the Event

Sopranista Maayan Licht and harpsichordist Guy Maori present dazzling performances of Baroque arias once created for the legendary castrati, accompanied by virtuosic pieces on a Flemish Ruckers‐style harpsichord.

Guy Maori, Harpsichord
The Ruckers harpsichord was the pinnacle instrument of its era. Crafted by the renowned Ruckers family of Antwerp, these harpsichords became the benchmark across Europe for nearly two centuries. Featuring two manuals and contrasting registers, these instruments enabled musicians to swiftly switch between sounds, including the 'forte' and 'piano' effects evident in some of Bach's compositions. Maori performs on a contemporary replica crafted in Amsterdam.

Maayan Licht, Sopranista
A sopranista is a male soprano, one of the rarest vocal types today. It was this voice that inspired famous arias by Handel and Vivaldi. Maayan Licht has dedicated his career to this genre, merging historical performance techniques with a vivid and virtuosic vocal style. The program transitions between solo harpsichord pieces and arias that highlight the brilliance, theatricality, and technical mastery of Baroque vocal art.
