About the Event

Dance, theatre, and cinema come alive in vibrant, dynamic chamber performances by nine members of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, highlighted by Nino Rota’s cinematic Nonet.

Prokofiev, Francaix, Nielsen and Rota
Music plays a crucial role in dance, theatre, and film. Likewise, moving bodies and powerful imagery inject music with endless vitality. Prokofiev and Françaix’s zesty chamber works reveal the influence of ballet music. For Danish composer Nielsen, musical performances transform into theatre, while Rota’s Nonet for five wind and four string instruments reflects his iconic film scores for Coppola (The Godfather!) and Fellini.

Close‐up
Concertgebouw Orchestra musicians curate their own programs in the Recital Hall for the Close‐up chamber music series. Each concert in this series is a one‐time, unique experience showcasing the distinct talents of the orchestral musicians. These intimate performances are presented by the Friends of the Concertgebouw and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
