Céline Scheen & André Henrich: Lute songs from Dowland to Caccini
Amsterdam, De Waalse Kerk
About the Event
On the main stage of the Utrecht Early Music Festival, Céline Scheen has shone in recent years alongside Philippe Jarrousky and Christina Pluhar. Philippe Pierlot and his Ricercar Ensemble also count her as a loyal artistic companion. But the Belgian soprano excels like no other in intimate settings. That is exactly the side she shows during this tour: small, delicate, accompanied by a single lute. On the program: 16th‐ and 17th‐century lute songs by Giulio Caccini and John Dowland, among others.
Belgian soprano Céline Scheen began her musical training at the Conservatory of Verviers, after which she continued her studies at the Royal Conservatories of Mons and Brussels, and the Guildhall School in London. Known for her contribution to the soundtrack of Le Roi danse, she performed in numerous operas throughout Europe, including at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie and Carnegie Hall. Scheen has been a voice teacher at the Royal Conservatory of Liege since 2019.
German‐born lutenist André Henrich studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne and performs as soloist and continuo player with renowned ensembles such as Les Arts Florissants and La Simphonie du Marais. Living in Paris since 2002, he has performed internationally and teaches at the Conservatory of Saint‐Maur‐des‐Fossés and Pôle Sup 93.
