Bösendorfer Series: Barry Douglas
Amsterdam, De Waalse Kerk
About the Event
Immerse yourself in the stunning architecture of Amsterdam's breathtaking De Waalse Kerk for the ultimate concert set to awake your understanding of music.
The Bösendorfer Piano Series is a series of intimate piano recitals in which nine top pianists shine behind our Bösendorfer Imperial Grand grand piano.
Irish pianist Barry Douglas launched his international career after winning the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow in 1986. His love of Russian music is therefore great and he has recorded much of this repertoire. Tonight we will hear several movements from Prokofiev's 10 pieces from Romeo and Juliet. Although the orchestral version of this is widely known, Prokofiev often played the piano version himself in recitals. The evening will open with two Impromptu by Schubert, which are among Schubert's most played and beloved works. After intermission, you will hear Liszt's greatest and perhaps his finest piano work: the Sonata in b minor.
